Fishing & Cooking: Major Update Now Live in Entropia Universe

Greetings, colonists. Today MindArk released the Fishing & Cooking major update for Entropia Universe. Fishing and cooking add an entirely new system to the game, with more depth than any existing system — a relaxing break from hunting for some, and a serious mastery path for those who want to optimize every cast.

Important notice

Because these are brand-new systems with large scope, parameters, items, and/or blueprints may be adjusted or rebalanced in the weeks right after release so long-term balance stays healthy for the wider game and economy.

Finding the right spot

You can fish in any body of water across Planet Calypso, Next Island, Rocktropia, ARIS, and Setesh — seas, rivers, lakes, and deep ocean. Water type affects which fish appear: some species are tied to one environment, others show up in several.

Putting together your rod

The update launches with four rod families:

  • Casting rods — casting minigame
  • Angling rods — angling minigame
  • Fly fishing rods — angling minigame, with a different toss minigame
  • Deep ocean rods — casting minigame, but only from a boat

Your catch depends on the full setup, not the rod alone.

Understanding the parameters

You attach Reel, Blank, Line, and Lure to the rod. Each part has its own stats:

  • Rod Strength · Rod Flexibility
  • Reel Strength · Reel Speed
  • Blank Strength · Blank Flexibility
  • Line Flexibility · Line Strength · Line Length
  • Lure Depth · Lure Quality

All Flexibility stats add together and affect: casting — how far the fish swims away while not reeled in; angling — length of your bar in the minigame.

All Strength stats (except the reel's) add together and affect: casting — tension build-up; angling — time before failure when you are not overlapping the bars.

Reel Strength is compared to the fish's strength and makes the fight easier or harder. Reel Speed controls how fast you reel during the minigame. Lure Depth must meet or exceed the fish's minimum depth to get a bite. Lure Quality improves bite chance.

Spool cells, blueprints, and starter gear

You need Spool Cells for fishing. They are crafted from blueprints from the fishing terminal, or by refining Bait Fish with Universal Ammo. Short term, Lars offers a one-time exchange of universal ammo for spool cells.

Mix and match rods and parts to tune for target species. Starter blueprints come from the new Fishing Blueprint Terminal at Port Atlantis and from any Technician. The Baitfishing Rod from Lars at the camp is the free-to-play entry. A basic starter set is also available from a new mission on Setesh; more advanced gear blueprints are out in the world to discover.

Fish — and the Fishing Codex

Launch includes 100 different fish, each with parameters such as biome preference, size, strength, difficulty, minimum depth, preferred lure, and time of day — so mastery means exploring, testing, and taking notes. Track discoveries and claim skill rewards in the new Fishing Codex.

Getting started in the water

Assemble your rod, keep Spool Cells in inventory, then go to the water. When the prompt appears, press E to enter casting mode and control cast distance. After the cast, wait for a bite or press E to cancel. When a fish bites, follow the UI to hook it, then play the minigame for your rod type. Land the fish and it's yours; fail and that fish is gone — cast again.

What's cooking?

Cooked meals work like consumable buffs (similar to pills) with new bonuses for hunting and other activities. They replace the old generic pills from strongboxes. Starter recipes are at the fishing terminal; the rest is for you to discover.

You must use the correct stove tier for the recipe level. The campfire at Port Atlantis handles recipes up to level 2. Higher stoves must be found or crafted and, for advanced cooking, used on an estate by the estate owner. Fishing supplies most ingredients, but harvesting, gardening, mining, and hunting also feed into recipes.

In total, 111 new consumables join the game. For each buff type there are strength levels 1–3, and for each strength a 1 hour and 10 hour duration variant. Buff categories include: Crit Chance, Crit Damage, Faster Reload, Run Speed, Max HP, Increased Regeneration, Life Steal, Crit Damage Reduction, Increased Evade/Dodge, Heal over Time, Divine Intervention, Auto Loot, Skill Gain, Synchronization, Harvesting Find Radius, and Rare Mining Find chance — among others.

New professions and skills

Professions include: Cast Fisher, Baiter, Fly Fisher, Deep Ocean Fisher, Fish Looter, Fishing Gear Engineer, Fishing Attachment Engineer, Baitfisher, Gastronomer, Nutritionist, and Provisioner.

Skills include: Gutting, Fishing, Casting, Angling, Fly Fishing, Deep Ocean Fishing, Baitfishing, Provisioning, Nutrition, Gastronomy, Fishing Attachment Technology, Fishing Rod Technology, and Cooking.
